Dir: Alain Cavalier, France, 105mins

Director/actor Alain Cavalier plays a version of himself beginning to work on a film in which he will play the President of France. Actor Vincent Lindon also plays a version of himself preparing to play a politician who will be prime minister. The two men don their power suits and ties and make the film they’ve always dreamed of; pretending to be men in charge, at easy with power and with the need of their nation, but not always really clear on what should be done and how it should be done. Released in France just before the Dominique Strauss-Kahn scandal hit the headlines, and one of a number of new French films that try to pry open the private lives and mindset of France’s power elites, Alan Cavalier has directed his new film in an elusive way that’s even hard to pin down as ‘mockumentary’, projecting us into French political life and high-level power. Special ticket prices apply to all AFFFF screenings.
